There is now something called gOS which uses Linux and contains such things as Firefox, several of the usual social networks, such things as google maps etc all in a row at the bottom of your browser. Do a Google search for gOS and check it out.
You will need a H.S Internet connection, the ability to burn a CD from a iso and naturally if you decide to install it enough space to do so(take considerably less HD space than Windows. It sets itself up as "Live" version and you will need to actually install it to your hard drive if you like it. Like any "live CD" you can check it out with messing up whatever you have on your hard drive. Note: It is a Beta and so if you aren't the adventurous type, wait for the stable release. This is being written using gOS and Firefox
